Three Days to Rock 'n' Roll

I was waiting as long as possible to buy my entry place in the Rock n Roll Marathon, which in retrospect, was a stupid idea.  After hurting my knee in March and getting sick a few times, I wasn't sure if I should run a half or a full marathon.  I figured I would wait and see how I felt.  When I got back from South Dakota two weeks ago, I tried to buy them and they were sold out!

I was crushed.  I cried and got drunk and ate mashed potatoes.  I looked into being a marathon bandit, but soon realized that I would definitely be found out and probably stoned (or at least heckled) by some overzealous running cop.  On the marathon's website they very pointedly state that marathon bibs are nontransferable and bib selling or sharing will not be tolerated and will result in bad things.

I am breaking the rules!  Brett found some rebels on Craigslist who are willing to risk inciting the wrath of the marathon cops and sell me a bib.  I'm hoping to meet one of them tomorrow or on my birthday at the convention center for the transfer.  Wish me luck!

Still Running

I had some setbacks last month when I was ill for two weeks, but I'm back on track and I'm up to 20 miles per week.  Last Saturday Brett and I ran eight miles without stopping, which was my longest run so far.  I'm really excited that I could run past seven miles.  My uncle told me when I started, "If you can run seven miles; you can run a marathon".  So it looks like I'll be able to run a marathon.

Telly's brother, Corey, told me he lost three toenails when he ran a marathon last year.  Needless to say, that freaked me out.  Has anyone else had this happen?  Brett told me that some people poop in their pants when they run a marathon.  Seriously?  Why?

I love all of the things people tell me about running.

I Hate Running

I seriously hate running this week.  I hate running clothes (do we really need to wear polyester short-shorts?).  I really despise the neon shoes.  Why doesn't anything come in black?  I really don't like running for hours on end; I hate it.  I am so tired of being sore.

That said, I'm still on track and I'm getting really fit.  Next time I write my foul mood will have lifted and hopefully I'll have something more positive to report.

One Month Closer

It's been a month since I started training for this marathon!

I've realized that making yourself run every day is harder than actually running, but I've managed to run every day I'm supposed to with the exception of the week my grandpa died.

Now I'm running between 25 and 30 minutes straight, four days a week, and amazingly it's getting easier every day.  Since I got my new shoes, my shins don't hurt at all and I've dropped 14 pounds, so I'm lighter and faster.  I can't wait to see how much better I am in another month!

Here's me being cheesy; so happy I made it one month.

New Shoes!

Thanks for the new shoes Mom!

I went with Linda's recommendation of the San Diego Running Institute on Mission Gorge Place; they were really good.  They drew on my feet and then made me walk on this pad to help pick the right shoes for my gait.  It was very high-tech, so it has to work.

Shoe Shopping

This shows the pressure points when I stand.  It's pretty cool.  You can get shoes that do different things like support arches or correct a role.

Martin Luther King Parade

Today was the most entertaining jogging I've ever done.  I was supposed to head up to Fallbrook this morning, but I woke up late and decided to go for a run before I left.  I forgot about the MLK parade today.  Running isn't so torturous when there's something to occupy your attention other than aching muscles and sore joints.

I ran on the MLK Promenade and watched the parade then ran by the Hard Rock and was shocked to see Sharon Osbourne with a large entourage.  At least I think it was Sharon Osbourne.  It could have been Delta Burke.  I'm not sure.  I kept wishing I had my camera, so I went home and got it.

I didn't get a photo of Sharon (or Delta), but here's one of SDSU representing.
